BEAT DOWN

He felt it rising.
The rage was burning his body.
The boy wanted to put his fist through a wall he was so angry but there wasn’t one to hit. As he knelt in the middle of the playground, in the dirt, face bruised and bloodied…
He wanted to scream.
The kids around him cheered. The boys who beat him laughed. He was outmatched, outnumbered, outgunned in size, weight and age too, so there was nothing he could do but take his beating. Sometimes, that really is all you can do. It is the lesson. LIFE beats us down to our knees to teach us how to pick ourselves back up, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t suck as we do so. There is no joy in it initially…
