Where he was from…
The name ‘Uncle’ was a sign of respect.
Not every man was given that name; you had to earn it. Men in the community had to be responsible, accountable, strong, healthy, well-mannered but also fearless, ferocious and courageous when called upon. The uncles were good men, but if you pushed their buttons they would lay down their lives for the women and children of the community. They were loving…
But also direct.
That’s how a man gets the name uncle. He is firm but fair. They are dependable men entrusted as mentors to the younger generation; particularly the boys of the community. Beyond the father, uncles act as solid foundations for boys to rely upon. All boys need solid men to prop them up, build them up, give them a leg-up to higher ground as they grow. There is no one better at doing that than a good uncle.
