MY TEMPLE

In Māori culture…
When we are sick we visit a tohunga.
They are healers intuitively connected to the interrelated nature of the tinana (BODY), hinengaro (mind), and wairua (spirit).
I was on my way to visit my tohunga who lived deep in the Whirinaki forest. The best way to get there was by foot and it was a fair old hike from my village.
I took advantage of this time walking in nature though. As I strolled through the woodland I breathed deeply. I used the breath to consciously connect to the spirit of the Earth and was sure to give thanks that I was alive. I was not exactly thriving…
